DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM

Pacific Health Institute offers an unique 10 month educational experience.  Carefully designed by a nationally recognized instructor with the input of dentists and certified dental assistants, this career program will help you gain the life-long skills you need to get started as a successful dental healthcare professional.

At Pacific Health Institute, we know the importance of being optimally prepared for your first workplace and we recognize the value in making this transition smooth.  That is why the program at PHI incorporates maximum hands-on real world training.  We are dedicated to getting you industry-ready by making your education more practical and relevant to your career.

The certified dental assisting program takes place over 3 terms and a practicum placement.  Your first 9 months of training will begin with a combination of learning in the classroom, dental laboratory, and dental clinic at the institute.  During this time, you will learn from passionate instructors and industry experts using up to date equipment and techniques.  At PHI, real-world experience comes early on.  So, even before you reach your practicum, you will begin working with dental patients, dentists, and other members of the dental healthcare team in our fully operational on-site dental clinic.  Following this 9 months of training, you will participate in a 4 week practicum placement at a general practice dental office for work experience.  This will further allow for competency in all the legal duties that will be assigned to you as a certified dental assistant.

Pacific Health Institute is invested in building the foundation for your career enjoyment and fostering your success.  You are in the right place to develop the professional skills, technical knowledge, clinical experience, and confidence necessary to start a rewarding career as a Certified Dental Assistant.

CDA CERTIFICATION

In order to practice as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) in BC, graduates from an approved dental assisting program must seek certification from the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC).  CDSBC is the regulatory body of CDAs in BC. The Dental Assisting Program at Pacific Health Institute (PHI) is approved by CDSBC and for graduates of this program, along with a criminal record check, both the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) Written Exam and Clinical Practice Evaluation (CPE) must be successfully completed.  Graduates from PHI’s program will be eligible candidates for both of these NDAEB exams and preparation for them will be included in the curriculum along with the preparation of all the legal duties that will be assigned to them as CDAs.
